The #6 Utah Wheelin' Jazz advanced to the Championship game of the 2009 Desert Classic in Las Vegas, NV with a convincing win over the #17 Rancho Renegades 71-54. Rancho put up a battle but their smaller size was no match for the much taller and bigger Wheelin' Jazz.
The Wheelin' Jazz led 38-27 at the half and never looked back. Rod Niemann led four players in double figures with 18 followed by Jason Hokanson, Bret Remington, and Mike Schlappi with 16, 13, and 10 points respectively.
The win sets up a rematch of last year's Desert Classic Championship against the defending National Champion, #3 Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks. The Wheelin' Jazz and Mavericks played for the championship in the 2008 Desert Classic. The Mavericks won that game so the Wheelin' Jazz are looking to exact some revenge.
